The University of Texas standout qualified for his first U.S. Open by shooting 9-under-par 133 in final qualifying at Royal Oaks and Lakewood country clubs in Dallas. Vick was exempt from local qualifying by virtue of being a 2021 U.S. Amateur quarterfinalist (he lost in the semifinals to Austin Greaser). Before arriving at Texas, he was the stroke-play medalist in the 2016 U.S. Junior Amateur at The Honors Course in Ooltewah, Tenn., advancing to the Round of 16. He won the 2016 Junior Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass and was a 2018 American Junior Golf Association first-team All-American. This year, Vick, a junior, finished second in the NCAA Norman, Okla., regional, where the Longhorns were fourth as a team, qualifying for the NCAA Championships in Arizona, where they defeated Arizona State in the championship match. At Houston's Second Baptist High School, Vick also played quarterback on the football team and pitched on the baseball team. His high school produced baseball standouts Lance Berkman and Andy Pettitte.
