The 2014 U.S. Junior Amateur champion has enjoyed a meteoric rise as a professional since tying for sixth in the 2020 U.S. Open at Winged Foot. In 2022, he had a pair of runner-up finishes in the majors. He lost a three-hole aggregate playoff to Justin Thomas at the PGA Championship, and then came up one stroke short a month later in the 122nd U.S. Open at The Country Club. Zalatoris, who was born in San Francisco but now resides in Plano, Texas, catapulted inside the top 50 of the Official World Ranking with his performance at Winged Foot. In his Masters debut in 2021, he finished second, two strokes behind winner Hideki Matsuyama. Zalatoris' lone professional victory to date came in the 2020 TPC Colorado Championship on the Korn Ferry Tour, although he has had several close calls since gaining his PGA Tour card. Zalatoris enjoyed a decorated junior and amateur golf career, which culminated in him representing the USA on the victorious 2017 Walker Cup Team. In 2017, the Wake Forest star was a first-team All-American and the Atlantic Coast Conference's Player of the Year. His grandfather was a military pilot for 30 years, and his father and uncle were also pilots. His mom was a track and field athlete at the University of Oregon. Zalatoris defeated Davis Riley in the U.S. Junior Amateur final at The Club at Carlton Woods in The Woodlands, Texas.
