NeSmith qualified for his second U.S. Open, and first since 2015, by shooting 11-under-par 131 in final qualifying at Royal Oaks and Lakewood country clubs in Dallas, Texas. The South Carolina native missed the cut at Chambers Bay seven years ago. NeSmith's only professional win to date is the 2019 Albertsons Boise Open on the Web.com Tour (now Korn Ferry Tour). As an amateur, NeSmith won the 2011 Junior Players at TPC Sawgrass and the 2015 Players Amateur at Berkeley Hall. He played for the University of South Carolina. NeSmith proposed to his wife Abigail, a former equestrian rider at the University of South Carolina, on the 18th green of Harbour Town Golf Links in 2018. He has a brother who is a photo journalist in New York City.
