Earned his fifth U.S. Open start by sharing medalist honors at 12-under 131 in the Powell, Ohio, final qualifier conducted at Kinsale Golf & Fitness Club and Wedgewood Golf & Country Club. All seven of Kim's victories have come on the Japan Golf Tour, the last being the 2021 Dunlop Phoenix. Although he was born in the Republic of Korea, Kim spent most of his childhood in Honolulu, Hawaii. He attended Arizona State University after graduating from Hamilton High in Mesa, Ariz. He currently resides in Gilbert, Ariz., but plays primarily in Asia. He did win the 2009 Pacific Coast Amateur at The Gallery outside of Tucson, Ariz.
