Barnes will compete in his first U.S. Open after shooting 6-under 138 in a final qualifier held at Ansley Golf Club's Settindown Creek Course in Roswell, Ga. Barnes also survived local qualifying to earn his place at The Country Club. He played his collegiate golf at Austin Peay University. During the pandemic, the Indiana native took a side job at Publix, a grocery store chain in Florida, stocking shelves. He did that in the morning and kept his golf game sharp in the afternoon. Barnes owns two professional wins, including the 2011 Avoca Classic on the Hooters Tour. He also won the 2020 Jamaica Open. He was born in Kalamazoo, Mich., but raised in Marion, Ind. At Austin Peay, he was the Ohio Valley Conference's Freshman of the Year in 2007 and Player of the Year in 2009.
