Young will come into his third U.S. Open fresh off a tie for third in the PGA Championship at Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Okla. Young came up one stroke short of the playoff between eventual winner Justin Thomas and Will Zalatoris. Before gaining his PGA Tour status for the 2021-22 season, the former Waker Forest standout registered a pair of Korn Ferry Tour wins on consecutive weekends in May 2021: the AdventHealth Championship and Evans Scholars Invitational presented by First Midwest Bank. Young, the son of the head professional at Sleepy Hollow Country Club in Westchester (N.Y.) County, registered three victories in his senior season for the Demon Deacons and had a stroke average of 70.56. In 2017 he became the first amateur to win the New York State Open. He advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2014 U.S. Amateur and was a member of the 2014 USA Junior Ryder Cup Team. He earned his spot in the field by being among the top 60 in the Official World Golf Ranking as of May 23. His father, David Young, is the longtime head professional at Sleep Hollow Country Club in Westchester County, site of the 2023 U.S. Mid-Amateur.
