The 2018 U.S. Amateur champion has continued his upward trend since turning professional after earning low-amateur honors in the 2019 U.S. Open at Pebble Beach. He defeated Devondeep Bling, 6 and 5, in the 36-hole final of the 2018 U.S. Amateur at Pebble Beach. Two months earlier, he helped Oklahoma State win the NCAA title on its home course, Karsten Creek, in Stillwater. Since turning pro, Hovland became the first Norwegian to win a PGA Tour title when he claimed the 2020 Puerto Rico Open, and his since followed that up with back to back wins at Mayakoba. In 2022, he won the Slync.io Dubai Desert Classic on the DP World Tour (formerly European Tour). After last year's U.S. Open, he claimed the BMW International Open in Germany for his maiden win on the DP World Tour. Hovland was a member of the International team for the 2018 Palmer Cup. He was the runner-up in the 2016 European Amateur, losing on the seventh hole of a playoff. He helped Norway to a share of fifth place in the 2018 World Amateur Team Championship in the Republic of Ireland, and he represented Europe in the 2021 Ryder Cup.
