The 34-year-old native of Finland will make his first U.S. Open start by finishing among the top 10 in a four-event U.S. Open series on the DP World Tour. Samooja fired a final-round 64 to win the last event on the series, the Porsche European Open in Germany. It was his maiden victory on the DP World Tour (formerly European Tour) and second worldwide, following the 2018 Hainan Open on the European Challenge Tour. This will be his second major-championship start after missing the cut in the 2021 PGA Championship. As an amateur, Samooja represented Finland in the 2010 World Amateur Team Championship, and he competed in the European Team Championships in 2008, 2009 and 2010 for his native country.
