Besseling will make his first U.S. Open start after finishing among the top 10 in a four-event U.S. Open series on the DP World Tour. The native of the Netherlands owns four professional wins, including the 2008 Club Colombia Masters on the European Challenge Tour. As an amateur, Besseling twice represented his country (2004, 2006) in the World Amateur Team Championship, winning the Eisenhower Trophy in 2006 in South Africa with fellow professionals Joost Luiten and Tim Sluiter. Besseling also was the low individual scorer.
