With little to no wind and a receptive course making for ideal scoring conditions, Thursday has been a day for the record books at Pebble Beach. Several marks are in danger of falling in the first round, including lowest scoring average in a U.S. Open at Pebble Beach and most sub-par rounds. One record that has already been shattered is most eagles in any U.S. Open round. With several groups still on the course, Pebble Beach yielded its 14th eagle of the day when Callum Tarren holed a fairway bunker shot for a 2 on the par-4 10th hole. That broke the mark of 13 from the first round of the 1983 championship at Oakmont. Six of those were made on the 518-yard sixth hole. That total includes Rory Sabbatini’s ace on the 202-yard 12th, the first hole-in-one in a U.S. Open since 2014 and the 45th in championship history.
